Etymology

From djeg + qerre, literally "month in which wagons burn", of unknown meaning. Note archaic Serbian and Macedonian коложег (koložeg), also a compound of коло (kolo, wheel) + жег (žeg, warmth), which may point to an old regional isogloss.
