Unknown, probably from inherited from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *daRaq (“blood”) (Doublet of rah, rāh (“blood”)), from Proto-Austronesian *-Raq (“red”), which refers to red collared dove or red turtle dove (Streptopelia tranquebarica).
