dünyəvi

Azerbaijani

Etymology

From Arabic دُنْيَوِيّ (dunyawiyy). By surface analysis, dünya (world) + -vi.

The shift from the sense mundane to secular is probably resulting from a semantic loan from Russian светский (svetskij).

Cognate with Uzbek dunyoviy.
