Probably from Proto-Finno-Ugric *ćᴕ̈ppɜ (pinch, fingertip; to pinch).[1][2]

Alternatively, possibly from Proto-Turkic *čɨm- (pinch), compare Chuvash чӑбат (čăbat), Turkish çimdik, çimcik.
