club soda

English

Noun

club soda (countable and uncountable, plural club sodas)

  1. (Canada, US) A carbonated beverage consisting mainly of carbonated water, with or without a few other minor ingredients such as potassium citrate.

Usage notes

In American English (and possibly other varieties), a distinction is sometimes drawn between club soda and seltzer: a given brand will call a product seltzer when it contains nothing but carbonated water, but the product called club soda also contains a few other ingredients, although the products may be indistinguishable by taste and appearance.
