Etymology
Borrowed from Japanese 中将棋 (chū shōgi, literally “middle shogi”), so named for being between 小将棋 (shō shōgi, literally “small shogi”) (9×9) and 大将棋 (dai shōgi, literally “large shogi”) (15×15) in size.
