Borrowed from Turkic, compare Ottoman Turkish بوزطوغان (bozdoğan, “iron war-mace”). Cognate with Bulgarian боздуга́н (bozdugán, “mace”), Hungarian buzogány (“mace”), Macedonian боздоган (bozdogan, “mace”), Romanian buzdugan (“mace”), Serbo-Croatian буздован (“mace”), etc.
