From Old High German [Term?] (Alemannic dialect: brüel), perhaps from Gaulish *brogilos, itself perhaps a derivative of *brogis, from Proto-Celtic *mrogis (“borderland, march; region, territory”). Compare French breuil, Italian brolo.
