Borrowed from a South Slavic language, ultimately from Proto-Slavic *besěda (sitting outside, gathering, conversation). Compare Old Church Slavonic бесѣда (besěda, conversation, word) Serbo-Croatian beseda (word, speech), Macedonian беседа (beseda).[1][2][3]
