Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish بڭزه‌مك (beñzemek). Akin to Old Turkic [script needed] (meŋze-, to look alike), derived from Old Turkic [script needed] (beŋiz) / [script needed] (meŋiz, face, appearance),[1] from Proto-Turkic *beŋiŕ (face; to be similar; open forestless place on a mountain slope). See more at beniz (face). Compare Azerbaijani bənzəmək (to look like), Turkmen meňzemek (to resemble).
