From Middle English bedmaker, bedmakere, equivalent to bed + maker. Cognate with Saterland Frisian Bäädmoaker (bedmaker), West Frisian bêdmakker (bedmaker), Dutch beddenmaker (bedmaker), German Bettmacher (bedmaker).
