From Ottoman Turkish باشارمق (başarmak), related to باش (baş).[1] Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *baĺč.

Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (başgar-), Turkmen başarmak, Uzbek bosharmoq, Kyrgyz башкаруу (başkaruu), Kazakh басқару (basqaru), etc.
