auditory processing disorder (plural auditory processing disorders)

  1. (pathology) an umbrella term for a variety of disorders that affect the way the brain processes auditory information; it is generally differentiable from aphasia in that aphasia is by definition caused by acquired brain injury, whereas auditory processing disorder is principally neurodevelopmental.
