arhiepiscop
Romanian
Etymology
Borrowed from Byzantine Greek ἀρχιεπίσκοπος (arkhiepískopos), from ἀρχι- (arkhi-, “first, chief”) + ἐπίσκοπος (epískopos, “overseer”), partly through South Slavic, or Old Church Slavonic архиепискоупъ (arxiepiskupŭ); compare Serbo-Croatian and Bulgarian архиѐпископ. Equivalent to arhi- + episcop.
