- (countable) A tropical American evergreen shrub, Bixa orellana; the lipstick tree; the fruit of the tree.
- (uncountable) The seed of this tree used as a colouring or in Latin American cooking, containing bixin.
- (uncountable) A fugitive orange-red dye obtained from this seed and fruit pulp through maceration and fermentation, used as textile dye and skin dye, containing bixin.
