ambascia

Italian

Etymology

Unknown. On the face of it, identity with Late Latin ambascia, ambactia (service), from Proto-Germanic *ambahtiją, seems plausible; e.g. through a development “service” → “toil” → “distress”. If so, related with ambasciata (embassy).

  • Rhymes: -aʃʃa
  • Hyphenation: am‧bà‧scia
