aingira
Basque
Etymology
Probably inherited from Proto-Basque *angila, ultimately from Latin anguīlla (“eel”). This etymology, while being the most plausible, is problematic since the Latin term should have been borrowed into Proto-Basque as *angiLa, which would have yielded something akin to *aingila.
