aggódik

Hungarian

Etymology

From the obsolete verb aggik (to care about something) + -ódik (reflexive or passive verb-forming suffix),[1] where the verb is of disputed origin:[2] either from Proto-Finno-Ugric *aŋke (tight, depressed, distress, become tight),[3][2] or with a semantic blend and split related to agg (very old).[4][2] A connection with Proto-Finno-Ugric *šoŋkɜ (squeeze; narrow)[5] is considered unlikely.[2]
