Vosseburen

Dutch

Etymology

First attested as Vosseburen in 1861. Borrowed from an earlier version of West Frisian Foksebuorren, a compound of the surname Vos and the plural form of buer (house, cottage). Named after Anna de Vos, a local inhabitant. The first element was gradually reinterpreted to foks (fox, Vulpes vulpes) in Frisian.
