Tonsel

Dutch

Etymology

First attested as tunsele in 1313. Etymology uncertain. Proposed etymologies include a compound composed of an unclear first component and lo (light forest on sandy soil) and a derivation from Middle Dutch tuunsel (partition). A derivation from Old Dutch Tunne (a personal name) is unlikely.
