Terheijl
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as de helle in 1325. Derived from Middle Dutch hel (“low-lying land, pool, slope”). The toponym was gradually reinterpreted to hel (“hell”), and later to heil (“salvation”) in order to give it a more positive bent.
