From Sothis (“Sirius”) + -ic (forming adjectives),[1] a variant of earlier Sothiac, from French sothiaque,[2] ultimately from Ancient Greek σωθιακός (sōthiakós, “Sothic”), from Σῶθις (Sôthis, “Sirius”) and -κός (-kós, “-ic”, forming adjectives).
