Sirjansland

Dutch

Etymology

First attested as Zeer Jans lant in 1573. Contracted compound of heer (lord), Jan (a personal name) and land (land). The name references Jan of Beaumont (ca. 1288-1356), who initiated the land reclamation project which the later settlement would be built on.
