Proto-Uralic
Etymology
Has sometimes considered to be a derivative of Proto-Uralic *peele (“side”). According to current knowledge, this is however to be reconstructed as Proto-Uralic *päle (from which Proto-Finnic *peeli), in which light a connection seems less likely.
