Etymology
Probably from Proto-Balto-Slavic *ksalīˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *ksol-éyeti. Represent a continuation of Proto-Indo-European *ksol-, from *kes- (“to scrape, comb”).
Cognate with Sanskrit क्षालयति (kṣālayati, “to wash, cleanse”), Lithuanian skaláuti (“to wash, rinse”).
