Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *rudras, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rudʰ-rós. Morphologically *rъd- + *-rъ.
Cognate with Sanskrit रुधिर (rudhira), रुद्र (rudra, “Rudra — deity name”) (possibly), Ancient Greek ἐρυθρός (eruthrós), Latin ruber, Tocharian A rätraṃ, rtärye (“red”), Tocharian B rätre (< *rutro-), Old Norse roðra.
