Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *loh₁ǵ-ey-, causative/iterative of *leh₁ǵ-. Cognate with Latvian lẽzêt (“to slide”), Old Prussian līse (“(he) crawls”, 3sg.), Old Norse lágr (“low”), English low.
