Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *bʰoHu-eye-, from *bʰuH-. Morphologically *byti + *-iti.
Baltic cognates include Lithuanian bùvintis (“to sojourn”). Indo-European cognates include Sanskrit भावयति (bhāváyati, “to cause to be, cherish, refresh”).
