Etymology

From Proto-Uralic *sän. Cognates include Proto-Finnic *hän and Proto-Samic *sonë.

Unrelated to Proto-Indo-European *ḱe or any of its descendants.

The change *u̇ > o in Udmurt is irregular, but is a result of conflation with the related pronoun *se.
