Proto-Italic
Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *gʷréh₂us (“heavy”).
Reconstruction notes
- The fact that Latin shows enlargement of the u-stem into an i-stem while Oscan into an o-stem shows that such shift post-dated the split of Proto-Italic, which must have mantained u-stem adjectives.[1]
