From Proto-Indo-European *mn̥sdʰh₁-éh₂, from *mensdʰh₁- (“to pay attention, wisdom”), possibly from *men- (“to think”) + *dʰeh₁- (“to do, place”) + *-éh₂ (deverbal noun suffix).
