From *blī-, *bli- (“to shine, gleam, glow; be light, be glad”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰlī- (“light, fine, pleasant”), from *bʰleh₁-, *bʰel- (“to shine”). Cognate with Lithuanian bliva (“violet”).
