Proto-Finnic

Etymology

From *pii + *kivi. The first component is cognate at minimum to Proto-Samoyedic *pə̈j (stone, flint), and may be from a Proto-Uralic root *pije (flint). However, it is also possible that the first component is etymologically identical to *pii (prong, tooth), in which case the original meaning of the compound would have been "tooth-stone" rather than "flintstone".

Noun

*piikivi

  1. flint, flintstone
    Synonym: *ola
