Etymology 1
From Middle High German lucht, from northern Old High German luht, a variant of luft with the northern West Germanic development -ft- → -cht-, which in Luxembourgish survives only in a small number of relict words (compare Griecht, uechter), ultimately from Proto-West Germanic *luftu.
Cognate with Dutch lucht and German Luft, from which Luxembourgish Loft (“air as a gas; current of air”).
