Etymology
From Old English Lundene bryċġ (literally “London's Bridge” or “the Bridge of London”).
Proper noun
- A bridge across the River Thames between the City of London and Southwark. The first bridge was probably built in Roman times.
- An important railway station in Southwark, near the bridge, with both terminal and through platforms, also served by the Northern and Jubilee underground lines
- The area of London, in the borough of Southwark immediately surrounding the station (OS grid ref TQ3280).
