First attested as liindonck in 1299. Compound of either Middle Dutch lijn (“flax, Linum usitatissimum”) or a lost phytonym cognate to Old Norse hlynr (“Norway maple, Acer platanoides”) and Old English hlyne (“Norway maple, Acer platanoides”) and donk (“sandy hill protruding above a marsh”).
