Etymology
First attested as lirdob and lindor in 1155. Etymology unknown. The toponym has been hypothesised to be a compound of either linde (“linden, Tilia sp.”) or Proto-Germanic *hlitha (“slope, incline”) and dorp (“village”), but these hypotheses do not match with the oldest attestations of the toponym. Compare Lerop.
