Etymology

From långt (far) + bort (away) + -stan, calque of English Faroffistan, coined by Carl Fallberg in 1958. Attested since 1959, in Kalle Anka & C:o, the Swedish edition of Donald Duck. Cf. Danish Langtbortistan, Dutch Verweggistan.
