Hessum
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as hossem and hesne in 1328. Etymology uncertain. Ostensibly a compound of a personal name and heem (“home, settlement”), but the second attestation of 1328 casts doubt on this etymology. Compare Dalfsen, Oudleusen and Welsum.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈɦɛ.sʏm/
- Hyphenation: Hes‧sum
