Dobruja

English

Etymology

Probably ultimately from the Turkish rendition of the 14th century Bulgarian ruler Dobrotitsa. Other theories link it (at least the first element) ultimately to the Slavic word dobro (good), or from a Slavic derivation of a Turkic word.

Proper noun

Dobruja

  1. A historical region shared by Bulgaria and Romania, located between the lower Danube river and the Black Sea.
