From Latin Cȳrus, from Ancient Greek Κῦρος (Kûros), perhaps from Urartian 𒆳𒄣𒊑𒀀𒉌 (KURqu-ri-a-ni /⁠Quriani⁠/), a land possibly in the upper reaches of the Kura river.[1]
