First historical record of Berisha was found in the archives of the Republic of Ragusa in 1242, attested as Berissa.[1] Attested as Berisa in 1691.[2]

Derived from the name of the Gheg (northern albanian) Berisha tribe and historical tribal reigion. According to Robert Elsie the ancestral father of the Berisha lived around the year 1300.[3]
