Etymology
First attested as Caerte vande Lange Ackeren Schans around 1630. Derived from bad (“spa”) and a compound of nieuw (“new”) and schans (“sconce”). Named after a former fortress. The element bad was added in 2009 to promote the village's spa facilities.
