     Mr. Goldman, like up to 90 percent of men in their 70s, has benign prostatic hyperplasia, or B.P.H., a nonmalignant growth of the prostate gland. […] Common risk factors for developing B.P.H. include, in addition to age, a family history of the condition, obesity, metabolic syndrome, a sedentary lifestyle and diabetes.
