From Proto-Balto-Slavic *-iškas, from Proto-Indo-European *-iskos. Cognate with Lithuanian -iškas, Proto-Slavic *-ьskъ and Proto-Germanic *-iskaz. In foreign words it mostly represents German -isch. See -ish for more.
