Etymology

Borrowed from French -faction, from Latin factio, factiōnem (an act of making or doing), from faciō (I make, do) + -tiō (action noun suffix).[1]

  1. The act of creating something, or (more broadly) any process involving the specified thing.
    lith- (stone) + -i- + -factionlithifaction (the compaction and cementation of sediment into rock)
    aer- (air) + -i- + -factionaerifaction (aeration, hyperinflation of the lungs)
