Etymology
Two possibilities:
- Clauson (1962) suggests that it was Derived from Sogdian 𐼈 (z, “zayn”), ultimately from Classical Syriac ܙ (“zayn”).
- Clauson (1970) suggests that it was Derived from Ancient Greek Σ (S, “sigma”) through intermediaries.
