Possibly from Proto-Germanic *rōhsniz, possibly from *rōkijanΔ… (β€œto attend to, care for”) + *-(s)niz (nominal suffix), literally, β€œprotected thing”, though the form would have to be analogical (one would expect *π‚π‰πŒΊπŒ½πƒ).[1]
