Cognate with Ancient Greek κύμινον (kúminon), borrowed from Semitic, compare Ge'ez ከሚን (kämin), ካሚን (kamin), ከሙን (kämun), ከሜን (kämen), Arabic كَمُّون (kammūn), Hebrew כַּמֹּון (kammōn), Aramaic כַּמֹּונָֹא / ܩܰܡܽܘܢܳܐ (kammōnā, “cumin”), ultimately from Akkadian 𒂵𒈬𒉡 (Ú.GAMUN /kamūnu/, “cumin”).
