Etymology
First attested in the Seonggwanjajaegusuyukja seonjeong eonhae (聖觀自在求修六字禪定諺解 / 성관자재구수육자선정언해), 1560, as Middle Korean 가족 (Yale: kàcwòk). Also attested in the Eonhae taesan jibyo (諺解胎産集要 / 언해태산집요), 1608, as Early Modern Korean 가죽 (Yale: kacwuk).
Probably a doublet of Middle Korean 갗 (kach, “skin, leather”).
